"In Search of a Legend" PDF Print E-mail

In any championship event, no matter the sport, it pays to have a wealth of information about your opponent to give yourself the winning edge. Whether this opponent takes the form of a person, a fish,or a body of water, the investment of research can surely pay off...

For this most recent Xtreme Bass Fishing event, the 2009 Bass Team Championship...a quick trip down the results pages for the Kissimmee Division out of Camp Mack would surely tell you one thing if nothing else.

Tremendous weights have come across the scales by many different teams over the 2009 regular season. This would be anyone's tournament to win...or to lose. With 119 teams converging on the Lake Kissimmee and connecting waters to fight it out for the keys to a new and loaded Legend Alpha 211 Series bass boat powered by the ever impressive Evinrude 250 ETEC outboard motor, finding "your own" water would be of paramount importance. The team of Bobby Wooten and Chad Stewart took it to the bank! A "deposit" of 47.85 lbs over the 2 days of competition gave them what they were after...those keys mentioned earlier! A prize package of over $55,000.00 sat, waiting for them under the shade of the huge oak trees at the beautiful Camp Mack's River Resort. This is a championship prize package to be remembered. With a reasonable amount of research done, I can find no boat/motor/trailer package of this magnitude given away as a championship award by any trail of similar dimension in our state. Add to the package, a Minn Kota 101 Trolling Motor and the accompanying Humminbird Electronics and those guys have won one awesome rig!

Not only did he and his partner Tom Morse, find time to practice and fish the Championship, but Harlan Griggs of Roland Martin's Marine Center, made the whole Legend/Evinrude prize package come together. He didn't just "get the ball rolling", he pushed it off a cliff. And to make the presentation even more special, Cindy Van Horn of Legend Boats, flew in from Texas to be a part of the Championship weekend. Ever hear the phrase "Legend has it...?" Well, they certainly do! Thank you Harlan, Cindy and Roland Martin's Marine Center as the 2009 Championship Supporting Dealer! I should note and Cindy would want it known that Kurt Owen made himself available over the duration of the event and not only helped out Harlan and the Xtreme staff, but attended to whatever she needed to have done too. Kurt was considered her "personal assistant" and should be thanked as well.

Bass Wishes,
Cindy
